Whitewater on the Jarbidge
|
The Idaho white water rafting season starts early,
and some of the best runs of the year are on the Owyhee,
Jarbidge, and Bruneau
rivers, which
can only be run in April, May and June. It's well worth getting an early
start on the summer, because these rivers offer beautiful desert
scenery, and some of Idaho's best rapids.
Many sections of
these canyons have raucous class IV-V+ sections, but the Lower
Owyhee is class III, great for families and rafters of all levels.
Try the Jarbidge-Bruneau, or Upper and Middle Owyhee for wild whitewater
and a real wilderness feel.
Idaho's classic white water river trips are the Middle
Fork of the Salmon and the Main
Salmon Rivers. The Salmon's big rolling class III-IV rapids,
beautiful sandy beaches, historic cabins, hot springs, and spectacular
canyon scenery make it one of the best all-around river trips in the
west. The season on the Salmon lasts from April through September.
